Your throat chakra is an awesome energy center for self-expression, wisdom, and learning.
Healing and empowerment in this part of your body strengthens connection to your voice and your capacity to listen, as well as process fear.
Can you imagine when your creativity or self-expression is stifled? Where do you feel the inhibition in your body? What are the effects? Physically, we tend to recoil, hunching our shoulders and tucking our chin, causing hormonal and emotional shifts.
During those times, a well designed yoga practice can help to empower our sense of security.
(Keep in mind, there is also great power in silence. And you don’t need to be LOUD in order to be self-expressed)
The wonderful thing about being alive is that while we remain the same person, we are new and always new again, just like the revolution of the moon and the cycle of the sun. We go through stages of renewal.
Here is a yoga sequence that will help you navigate a healthy relationship in the matter of your throat chakra. Later this week I will follow up with a corresponding meditation.
Camel Pose, also known as Ustrasana
Position your hips directly over your knees. Bring your hands, one at a time, from your hips back to your heels. Draw your shoulder blades together strongly into your upper back. Lift you chest as you press your hips forward and draw your head back. Breath in. Breath out.
Reverse Plank Pose, also known as Purvottanasana
Sit on the ground with your legs outstretched. Place your hands down under your shoulders and point your fingers in the direction of your legs. Gently bend your elbows as you press down through your hands and lift your chest. Lift your hips as you pull your toes forward to stretch your feet out onto the floor.Engage the muscles of your back body as your front body lengthens. With secure shoulder blades, lengthen your crown away from your tail. Breath in. Breath out.
Reclined Hero Pose, also known as Supta Virasana
From a seated position, draw your feet back beside your hips so that all ten toes are pointing behind you and the tops of your feet are on the ground. Support your upper body with your elbows on the ground and touch your hands to your feet. With stable shoulder blades supporting your upper back, lift your chest and spread your upper arm bones wide. Lengthen the crown of your head back towards the ground. If you feel comfortable in this arch or your spine, draw your hands together at your heart. Breath in. Breath out.
Now, rest on your back with your legs outstretched. Place one hand on your lower abdomen, and one hand on your chest. Soften your eyes closed. Breath in. Breath out. Rise to a seat.
Stay current, as I will post a meditation that corresponds with this Throat Chakra Power sequence later this week.
