Legs Up The Wall
Viparita Karani is the Sanskrit name for Legs Up The Wall. It is one of my favorite ways to end a strong yoga session, and it works equally well after a long day of being on your feet or sitting for hours at work. I specifically suggest Viparita Karani to compliment asana yoga Handstands and Standing Balance practice. For this reason, I am providing the video of Viparita Karani as a compliment to my recent YouTube Yoga Tutorial on Ardha Chandrasana, Half Moon Pose.
After practicing the Half Moon Standing Balance tutorial with a wall, you might find that the amount of time you are able to focus on this position increases significantly. As a result, your musculoskeletal and nervous system receive a very healthy workout. A few minutes spent in this position helps the excess lactic acid that builds up in the muscles, so you will experience less uncomfortable soreness.
This particular Legs Up The Wall routine is an excerpt from my Power Yoga video series, which involves a lot of standing balance practice as well as techniques for practicing Handstands. You can read more about the Power Yoga series below!
In addition, Viparita Karani is a simple exercise to gain flexibility, alleviate back pain, and reduce swelling in your feet and ankles.
Dedicate 3-5 minutes to this yoga session.
Areas of the body that will benefit:
- Shoulders – upper trapezius
- Lower Back – lumbar vertebrae
- Hips – sacrum and psoas
- Thighs – adductors and hamstrings
- Legs – knees, ankles, and feet
For this simple exercise, have a block or a cushion
And now,
Viparita Karani.
Let’s Practice Legs Up The Wall.
