Yoga for Flexibility
“It’s important to realize that flexibility is not just about being long, lean, and wrapping up into pretzel shapes. Flexibility is a state of being in your mind, body, and life, and it does not stand alone. Your ability to be flexible is in direct relationship with your ability to be strong. “ – Courtney Bell
S…T..R…E…T…C..H! Okay since you are reading this I am betting you know that Yoga is GREAT for flexibility. I am going to tell you a story about a boy who loved to play football & run, this boy was also very curious and intuitive. He played chess, read books, played sports and helped dad around the yard. One day this boy was at a fair and wanted to do the Balloon Slide, this was the day that little boy damaged his back… permanently. You see the bottom of the balloon slide had not been inflated properly and immediately sunk to the bottom when the little boy hit the landing pad. This caused major compression & forced the little boy to stop all contact sports and start physical therapy. That little boy is now 27 years old… and that little boy is Me!
I can tell you being told you can no longer play football the year before you start high school in the south is not easy. Unable to play contact sports I opted into the low impact option and attended my first yoga class at the local gym. 13 years later and I still practice yoga, swim, run & even play Football regularly!
